Looking Back at 2020
We at GoBeyond wish everyone and their families a Joyous Holiday Season and a Happy New Year as we look back on 2020.
In January we created GoBeyond Capital, based on our previous experience with investing in billion-dollar startups (Transferwise, iZettle), making 8 exits (including Plan B Labs), establishing numerous companies and delivering 4.4x of a previous fund distributed back to investors (DPI).
We're building a venture capital manager that looks and feels different: focusing on new communities, contributing to the growth and diversity of the VC scene and giving real opportunities to outstanding founders from less traditional backgrounds. Below are some of the exciting milestones from 2020, perhaps they inspire you to take part in our journey:
We met and supported amazing founders from all over Europe, including our home country Estonia, home of most billion-dollar startups per capita in the world and our second home, UK. During the challenging times in the spring we compiled a list of startups under our "Tech for Crisis" initiative to show how technology supports us all. Throughout the year we have supported founders with their early stage fundraising as part of our value add process
We also launched 101 Fellowship, an initiative with six other fund managers- Bragiel Brothers, Golden Gate Ventures, Norrsken, Sisu Game Ventures, Smok Ventures and Superangel - to provide young people globally access into the venture capital world. By the end of the year a vibrant digital community has formed around the initiative and includes over 30 talented graduates with new skills on how to evaluate investments and raise capital. Next program to be announced in February.
We presented at a number of online conferences, like Arctic 15, Allocate Private Capital, Allocate GP, 0100 UK & Ireland, Pocketgamer Connects Digital and Superventure, where we were talking about fundraising and supporting startups. Hats off to all event organisers for keeping the ball rolling! We are also writing a blog series on venture capital investing.
We registered our management company with the regulators, submitted our EuVECA application and grew our team to include a number of like minded individuals looking to contribute to the scene.
We appreciate your support and hope to see more of you in 2021, either in person or virtually. If you'd like to learn more about any of the above initiatives or sign up for participation, please get in touch!
with best wishes!
